Location

Situated in the heart of Devon, between Exmoor and Dartmoor is the pretty village of Winkleigh. This small, quaint village dates back to 1086 with mentions in the Domesday Book, today it is known for being family friendly and perfect for a countryside holiday.

The village is home to two pubs, a village store and even a sports centre, there are various walks nearby and it is less than an hour to either the south or north Devon coastlines making it ideal for enjoying a day at the beach, whether that is at Exmouth or Westward Ho!

Within the village, guests staying at The Parsonage can enjoy a meal at either The Kings Arms or The Seven Stars. There are also a couple of tea rooms and a handy convenience store, which sells all the day to day essentials. Larger shops and supermarkets can be found in the nearby towns of Bideford, Barnstaple and Exeter.

For walkers staying at The Parsonage, Winkleigh Woods provides an excellent set of footpaths and is very dog friendly. The circular route here takes around 40 minutes. Other walks nearby, include those at Heywood Woods with walks alongside the River Taw, Halsdon Nature Reserve, which is managed by the Devon Wildlife Trust and weaves through woods towards the River Torridge, and finally The South West Coast Path, which provides plenty of opportunities whether you are on the south or north Devon coastline to capture some breathtaking views.

Cyclists will also love Devon for its many cycle ways. A firm favourite amongst all abilities is The Tarka Trail, which runs between Braunton on the North Devon coast to Meeth on the edge of Dartmoor. This 32 mile, largely tarmacked and traffic free route has some wonderful views of both the Taw and Torridge estuaries and plenty of spaces to stop off along the way either for a cream tea or a pint of beer. A second, popular cycle route within easy reach of Winkleigh is The Granite Way, this 11 mile route runs along the old railway line between Okehampton and Lydford and is well worth a visit if coming on holiday with your bike.
